Der Nordliche Gestirnte Himmel Dargestell von Dr. Frdn. Reuter
Beschreibung
Four chromo-lithographed sheets mounted on blue silk. Separately published. A very striking piece of cartographic printing on which the northern constellations, in their traditional, figurative symbols, are outlined in red against a deep indigo sky. Stars are shown at five different magnitudes as indicated by the legend below the chart; stars of the greatest magnitude, in gold, have been affixed to the chart, while others are printed. Little information was found on Reuter by the seller, other than he was the author of a work on the northern constellations that appeared in several editions from 1850 onward. Most likely this text accompanied the present work. The justus Perthes firm was particularly long-lived and was in business from the mid-18th century to mid-20th century. It was active in cartographic publishing, specializing in hand atlases of various types and occasional large-scale maps.
