Описание
The Rainbow Lobby Dedication Plaque is located in the main lobby as visitors enter the Adler Planetarium. The piece consists of a rainbow granite background with text in the middle and labeled Greco-Roman depictions of the planets around a sun, that inside holds a text. The silver text states "The Astronomical Museum and Planetarium of Chicago Gift of Max Adler to Further the Progress of Science to Guide to an Understanding of the Majesty of the Heavens to Emphasize That Under the Great Celestial Firmament There is Order Interdependence and Unity 1930." Surrounding the sun and text in clock wise order are the silver colored Greco-Roman depictions of the planets: Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Earth, and Mars. Including the sun and the planets the plaque has a width of seven feet and three inches. The sun itself has a width of three feet and five inches. Each planet is one foot in width with a height of one foot and six inches.

The Dedication Plaque is original to the Adler Planetarium's building. The plaque was created by Alfonso Iannelli who was an artist based in the Chicago area. Iannelli's work has a large presence at the Adler. Not only did he create the Dedication Plaque for the opening of the Planetarium, but he also created the twelve zodiac signs surrounding the outside of the building as well. The plaque has never moved locations within the building, always being in the front entrance of the space.
