This piece features ephemera that was on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis on its mission STS-135, the final flight of the Space Shuttle Program. The ephemera is framed by mat board and contains a flown American flag, photograph of the Space Shuttle Atlantis in space, an image of Atlantis taking launch an image featuring the space station and some of the crew in space and another image of the Earth taken in space. Directly under the American flag and in the center of this piece is a certificate, stating when, why, and by whom this piece was gifted.

Text on the certificate: "This United States flag was flown aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis during mission STS-135, the final flight of the Space Shuttle Program. STS-135 launched on July 8, 2011, and landed on July 21, 2011, after traveling more than 5.2 million miles and completing 200 orbits of the Earth. Presented to Adler Planetarium in appreciation of your outstanding work on our country's human space program. Col. Rex Walheim, USAF, (Ret.) NASA Astronaut."
