This was the final configuration of the ASTP. The Docking Module was carried aloft in the Saturn IB rocket in a way similar to the LM - behind the CSM. In orbit, the Apollo CSM would dock with the DM, pull it out of the Saturn IB, and proceed to rendezvous and dock with the Soyuz. This module’s design could be modified for use with the Space Shuttle, making additional flights like this possible.
