The three-man Apollo Moonship was also used for the Skylab and Apollo-Soyat missions. The CM, in front, contained the astronauts, where they would eat, sleep, pilot, navigate, conduct experiments and even shave for up to twelve days. The SM, in back, held propellant, oxygen, water, and, in the later missions, a variety of scientific experiments. It was jettisoned shortly before the CM was to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere at the end of each mission.
