Wooden barrel-form compass dial, in three segments: (1) Compass box, with floating, polychrome card. Compass rose has German initials. Mica instead of glass. Mounted on top of the compass, is a horizontal dial, labeled in Arabic numerals, with a hinged gnomon supported on a radius of the hour circle. (2) A cylindrical chamber about 2.5 cm deep, screws onto the compass box, covering the compass dial. (3) A cap in the form of a turned finial, slides into the end of the chamber, and is held by pressure. Gnomon for latitude 47°.
