Model: Stjernborg Observatory

Model of Stjerneborg observatory, the second observatory built by Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) on the island of Hveen, off the coast of Denmark. As shown by the model, the rooms of Stjerneborg (built in 1584) were underground with only the roof tops exposed, thus protecting the observing instruments from the wind. The original structure no longer exists. The model was reconstructed from drawings, descriptions and artists sketches.
