This is an early design of the craft of the Apollo-Soyuz mission. Flown during July 1975, this mission demonstrated the ability of the U.S. and Soviet Union to work together peacefully on space projects. It was the only joint manned U.S. - U.S.S.R. mission ever attempted, but was highly successful. In addition to substantial exchange of scientific data, much engineering work on spacecraft compatibility was realized, from which the ASTP docking module, developed by the U.S., emerged.
