[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
Apollo 13 sight, controller and plaque mounted on wood. Intended for use in rendezvous and docking, the reticle, aimed at the Earth's terminator line separating night and day, provided a target when the crippled spacecraft needed a course adjustment; the hand controller made that adjustment possible. The hand controller was on the Odyssey Command Module. As Jim Lovell rotated the spacecraft the hand controller would fire thrusters, which would allow the craft to move around or up and down. The original plaque was bolted to the lunar module long before the flight. One of the original crew members needed to be replaced and a new plaque was fabricated. When the Apollo 13 crew landed on the Moon, they were supposed to replaced the original plaque with this new plaque, but since the mission was aborted, this plaque was brought back to Earth.
