Round compass dial, fitted for a cover (missing). Folding brass gnomon, engraved with stylized leaves. Gnomon shaped like open triangle with S vertical. For latitude 51° (near London). Silvered hour plate with Roman numerals. Two C-shaped arcs support gnomon and 1 serves as a spring. Needle brake activated by closing lid. Magnetic deviation (approx.) 16° W.
