A "Sovereign rocker", a steelyard type balance developed after the introduction of the sovereign and half-sovereign in 1817. The balance has two depressions which fit a "SOVEREIGN WARRANTED" and "SOVEREIGN 1/2". These depressions are also slotted for checking the size (thickness) of the coins.
