Sundial: Compass

A plane-table compass with a cover bearing a horizontal dial for 49° latitude. Hour scale has Roman numerals and a folding, engraved gnomon. A heart-shaped cut-out reveals compass beneath. The compass is bi-level with inset rose and raised degree ring. Needle type 10. The compass box is set on a square base with simple azimuth lines extending to 8 points on the compass rose.
