Octagonal dial with 1 turned leg and an attached straight edge for use as a plane table compass. This straight edge may be a later addition. Hour ring has Arabic numerals inside; pointing hand marks latitude. Plumb-bob attached. Blued needle, type 14. Leather case contemporary with straight edge addition. Lined in red velvet, robins' egg blue fabric and green-stripped ribbon.
