Magnetic Compass: With Handle

Hand compass on a stem. Silver compass rose with offset arrow for magnetic deviation (10°E). Blued needle type 14. Underside of compass box engraved with tendrils. Coat of arms contains a shield with three roses sprouting from a triple mount. Above and surrounding the inset compass, circle of degrees 90-0-90-0-90 degrees, every 2 and 5 degrees; Latin names of cardinal points; east-west diametric bar bearing a rotating rule. Turned handle directly beneath compass. Underside of compass engraved with tendrils.

Rose filled with inscription "FRANCISCO DE PADOANIS FOROLIVIENSIS ARTIVM ET MEDICINAE. D." and coat of arms of Francisco de Padoanis of Forli.
