Lodestone: Encased

Magnetite encased in decoratively engraved silvered brass. Four screws in the corners hold casing together. Suspension ring. Two iron prongs. On top, wind rose with 12 points; foliate strapwork. On bottom, wind rose of 16 points with rotating pointer. German initials mark points. On one long side, a dial with hours (I-XII divided by halves) and rotating pointer. Foliate strap work. On each short side, flowers and rosette.

Engraved with flowers and fruit.
