Set of nine mechanical astronomical latern slides with external handcrank. Labels on each of the nine slides. Mahogany frames with insets received round 2 glass plates with planetary images. One is fixed and the other set into cogged frame which moves on a cog while turned by a handle. The handle and its cog wheel are attached to the wood with two small metal plates screwed on; this is what keeps the image plates from falling out. UV: adhesives are all white, on wood and on the glass: cellulose nitrate or animal glue. Late 19th century. (TF)
