Made in China for an English market. Similar to Chinese compasses A-60 and M-475. Turned cylindrical box with pressure fitting lid. Concentric circles on lid. Compass bowl painted silver. Rose of 8 points. Blued needle type 56. Glass missing. Three holes in compass box.

Owned by Admiral Robert E. Peary, who used the compass in 1893 and 1895 on his first two expeditions to the North Pole.
