Needle type 58. Vertical circle is hinged to a flat, vertical plate and secured by a thumbscrew. Turning the screw releases the circle, which can then be pivoted into a horizontal position for measuring magnetic deviation. Vertical plate attached to a turned pedestal resting on three feet.
