Beschrijving
Silvered scale divided for pressure, 21-31 inches every 100th, and altitude, 0-10,000 feet every 50 feet. Blued needle. Needle adjustment screw on back. Brass needle marker adjusted by a central knurled screw. Bevelled glass cover. Bimetallic compensation for temperature. Cylindrical gilt copper case with suspension ring.
The provision of a scale for height as well as barometric pressure was first suggested to Negretti and Zambra by the Astronomer Royal, George Airy (1801-1892). This barometer belonged to the notable amateur astronomer and specialist in visual double stars, S. W. Burnham.
