This is a sample of rainbow granite with a hone finish.
Object Story
We suspect that this granite sample arrived at the Adler Planetarium for the 1999 addition of the Adler's Sky Pavilion. While it is unknown whether the Adler ended up accepting this sample as the one to use in construction or not, we do know it must have been considered as an option. The granite itself was manufactured at the Cold Spring Granite Company in Cold Spring, Minnesota.

Back: sticker with the following information on it "Submittal # 4405.002.00 job number 97.3686. Approval Sample. Project: Adler Planetarium. Location: Chicago, IL. Granite: Rainbow. Finish: Hone. Sample: 1 of 3. These samples represent the color variation and natural markings which will be present on this project. This set of samples should be accepted in its' entirety.
