This is a boot impression from James Lovell. The boot impression was likely done in November 2012 during an event at the Adler to recognize the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 17 mission, the 11th and final manned flight to the Moon for NASA's Apollo program. Lovell was present at the event along with Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan. During the program Lovell, Schmitt, and Cernan would have used moon boots provided by the Adler Planetarium and stepped onto the clay. The finished product is a rectangular piece of concrete with James Lovell's signature at the top and one boot impression underneath. The impression appears to have not been colored over at all, maintaining the clay's natural color.
