Cylindrical brass chamber turned on side and rotating on base with 3 folding legs and leveling-screw feet. Iron antenna on top, rotated by endless screw. Large glass window on front of chamber. Small circular window on back door of chamber. Door has two milled screws holding electrodes. Green cotton-wrapped, coiled wire leads to 2 solid, electromagnetic rings. Rings have central windows aligned with chamber's windows. Rings mounted to back of door and enclose an inner chamber in which the galvanometer needle was suspended by a filament. Filament is broken. Needle is wire with 2 wanes. One vane is mirrored and designed to be seen through all the windows. "100" stamped on leg. With original fitted wooden box partly lined in black velvet with brass handle, 2 brass latch hooks and loose lock. Paper pasted in lid has manuscript notes for calibrating the instrument.
